Former WNBA star Sue Bird and ex-U.S. Women’s Soccer captain Megan Rapinoe are partnering with Jeff Wachtel’s Future Shack Entertainment to transform Meryl Wilsner’s novel Cleat Cute into a scripted series. The book, published by Macmillan last year, revolves around two soccer teammates who become romantically involved as they prepare for the World Cup. The adaptation will be executive produced by Bird, Rapinoe, and Camille Bernier-Green of A Touch More alongside Wilsner. A Touch More is a branch of the Togetherxr brand and this project marks their first venture into scripted television. Future Shack Entertainment, known for series such as Fox’s Murder in a Small Town and The CW and Roku’s Good Cop/Bad Cop, will be involved in bringing this adaptation to life.

Grace Henderson, a star of the US Women’s National Team, gets sidelined with an injury, allowing a new player, Phoebe Matthews, to take her place. The rivalry between the two unexpectedly turns into a romance as they prepare for the World Cup. The tension between them grows as miscommunication arises, leading to a decision between their personal relationship and their professional careers. A Touch More’s Bird, Rapinoe, and Camille Bernier-Green will oversee the television adaptation alongside Wilsner.

Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe expressed their excitement about the partnership and the opportunity to bring Cleat Cute to life. Future Shack Entertainment CEO Jeff Wachtel also conveyed his enthusiasm, emphasizing the universal appeal of sports and the potential for compelling storytelling. A Touch More is represented by UTA, while film & TV rights for Meryl Wilsner are represented by Katherine Curtis of New Leaf Literary & Media.
