Lockdown and shelter order lifted

Updated November 3, 2026, following the university’s 2:24 a.m. Eastern update.

The University of Toronto Mississauga has lifted its lockdown and shelter-in-place order after a police response at a student residence, the university said early Tuesday.

In its 2:24 a.m. update, the university listed the Mississauga campus as open and said the situation was no longer active. Some areas at McLuhan Court residence remained cordoned off, and Peel Regional Police remained at the scene, it said.

The university’s earlier 1:18 a.m. update said the situation had been contained to one residential unit, the immediate area had been evacuated, and there were no reports of physical injuries at that time. Police had not publicly described the cause in their earlier update.

What is known

The university first reported police activity near McLuhan Court and told people to shelter until further notice, according to its initial alert. Police later said the area was contained and asked the public to avoid it.

The Canadian Press reported through Global News that a Peel paramedic spokesperson said crews had been asked to stage nearby and had not taken patients at that point. That account was published before the later police update saying no injuries had been reported.

Officials’ updates did not establish why the police response began. Newstro will rely on further official information and verified reporting as the situation develops.
