Gunfire on West Avenue

Developing story · Updated November 1, 2026, 11:11 AM Central

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Six people were taken to hospitals with gunshot wounds after a shooting early Sunday near Dickson Street, police said, according to The Associated Press.

Police responded around 1:41 a.m. to West Avenue between Watson and Dickson streets, 40/29 News reported. The shooting happened during Halloween weekend in an area known for restaurants, bars and live music.

All six people’s injuries were described as non-life-threatening in an early KNWA/FOX24 report published by AOL. AP reported that police said no arrests had been made and that a preliminary investigation indicated an altercation preceded the shooting. Those details are preliminary and may change.

What police are investigating

The information available from police does not establish what the altercation involved, how many people fired a weapon or whether the people wounded were part of it. An altercation before gunfire is not, by itself, an explanation of who was responsible.

40/29 reported that names and ages of those involved had not been released in its initial coverage. KNWA/FOX24 said no suspect had been identified in its early update; AP separately reported no arrests. Those are not the same finding, and both describe the information available when those outlets reported.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information can contact the Fayetteville Police Department; the city lists its non-emergency number as 479-587-3555. Call 911 for an emergency.
