UFC chief Dana White says he plans to meet President Donald Trump in Washington on Monday after Trump publicly said he had offered him the White House press secretary job. White has not publicly said he accepted the role, while a separate account says he declined.

At a boxing news conference in London, White said he intended to fly to Washington and meet Trump, The Associated Press reported. White noted that he already has multiple jobs; the AP account did not report an acceptance.

Conflicting accounts of the offer

CNN, via KESQ, cited a person familiar with the matter who said White declined the position. CNN also reported that a White House aide characterized Trump's offer as a joke. Those attributed accounts do not establish what White will say after the meeting, or whether the president intended the public offer seriously.

Trump announced his offer on social media following changes to the White House communications operation. White has been a longtime Trump ally and has appeared at political events supporting him.

What remains unresolved

The available reporting does not establish that White has agreed to become press secretary. White's remarks about a planned meeting and CNN's account of a decline should be read together, with their different sources and timing in mind.

The Associated Press said the White House and UFC did not respond to its requests for comment. Newstro has not independently verified a final decision.
