Gunfire at an office campus

November 4, 2026 · 8:45 p.m. Central

A woman was killed Wednesday at a Citibank office complex in the Tampa area after a man drove into an outdoor courtyard and opened fire, authorities said. An armed security guard shot the suspect, who later died at a hospital.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said it is investigating the shooting at the Sabal Center campus. It reported that the woman died at the scene and that the suspect was pronounced dead at Tampa General Hospital.

Four other people were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, Chief Deputy Frank Losat told the Associated Press. He said he did not know whether they had been struck by gunfire or the vehicle.

What authorities say happened

Losat said the man drove through a secured fence into an outdoor area where employees were having lunch, then got out with a rifle and shot the woman, Spectrum News reported. The security guard confronted him inside a cafeteria.

The sheriff’s office said 911 dispatchers began receiving reports of shots fired at 12:11 p.m. Eastern. Its first marked unit arrived within a minute, and deputies entered the building. The agency said the suspect was taken to the hospital at 12:24 p.m. and pronounced dead at 1:12 p.m.

The agency said officers cleared the buildings and secured the area. Spectrum reported that employees were evacuated and a reunification center was set up.

Questions remain

Authorities had not publicly identified the woman or the suspect in the reports reviewed. The sheriff’s office had not given a motive or said whether the two knew each other, AP reported.

Citi told Spectrum it was aware of the incident and coordinating with law enforcement. The company said in a message to employees that counseling would be available, Spectrum reported.

Officials said thousands of employees were on the campus. The investigation was continuing; the accounts and injury information could change as authorities learn more.
