Former First Lady Melania Trump traveled to Baton Rouge on Saturday to announce a $7.2 million permanent scholarship endowment at Louisiana State University, creating long-term educational and financial backing for students who have aged out of the foster care system.
The endowment marks a major expansion of Trump’s "Fostering the Future" program, an initiative she established under her broader "Be Best" advocacy umbrella. Rather than offering short-term grants, the fund is structured to provide full wraparound support—covering university tuition, academic fees, books, living stipends, and year-round on-campus housing to ensure students do not face homelessness during breaks.
Standing alongside university leadership at the LSU Foundation, Trump noted that young adults aging out of foster care face some of the steepest obstacles in higher education, with national statistics showing fewer than four percent graduate with a four-year degree.
