Bridge and power network hit

November 7, 2026 · 3:00 a.m. Central / 11:00 a.m. Kyiv

Russian missile and drone attacks damaged a major bridge and energy facilities in and around Kyiv overnight, disrupting power, heating and water supplies, Ukrainian officials said, according to Reuters.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko said several missiles hit the Northern Bridge across the Dnipro River. Authorities reported damage to homes and other buildings, and the bridge was closed to traffic.

Reuters reported one person killed and eight wounded, including a child, citing authorities. Earlier reports from The Associated Press and The Kyiv Independent described at least five people injured in the capital. The figures were reported at different points as officials assessed the attack and may change.

Power and water under strain

Klitschko described the city’s energy situation as extremely difficult, Reuters reported, with heating and water systems affected. The governor of the surrounding Kyiv region said energy facilities in at least three districts were hit; the scale and duration of interruptions remained unclear.

The Kyiv Independent reported damage to a residential building and a kindergarten, citing local officials, and described repeated overnight air alerts. Its earlier report said a person in the surrounding region was injured separately.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said its forces struck what it described as military-industrial, energy and transport targets in and around Kyiv, Reuters reported. That account does not independently establish the purpose of each impact.

A bridge in a wider war

The attack came ahead of planned U.S.-backed talks involving Ukraine and Russia in Abu Dhabi, Reuters and AP reported. The talks have not resolved the underlying questions of territory and security.

The Northern Bridge is a major route across the river, and officials’ closure means another disruption for residents. Authorities were still assessing damage when the reports were published.

The reported sequence

  • Late November 6: Ukrainian air alerts warned of incoming ballistic missiles; The Kyiv Independent reported explosions before 11 p.m. local time.
  • Overnight into November 7: Additional missile waves hit the capital, according to Ukrainian officials cited by Reuters and The Kyiv Independent.
  • November 7: Authorities reported a damaged bridge, energy disruptions and casualties. Reports changed as assessments continued.
