A new name in the 007 search

November 6, 2026 · 11:00 p.m. Central

Robert Pattinson has screen-tested for the next James Bond, according to entertainment-industry reports, adding a familiar movie star to a closely watched search for the next actor to play 007.

TheWrap reported Friday that Pattinson had tested for the role and that Nicholas Hoult was also reported to have tested. Deadline, in a report available via Allnira, cited insiders who said both actors took part in recent tests alongside other candidates.

Neither report amounts to a casting announcement. Amazon MGM Studios had no comment on the testing, TheWrap said; Deadline said it could not reach the company for comment.

What the reports say

TheWrap named Callum Turner, Jack Lowden and Josh O’Connor among the other hopefuls. Deadline reported the same three names, citing unnamed industry sources, and said the size and timing of the group were not confirmed by the studio.

A screen test is an audition recorded for a production’s decision-makers. It can show that an actor is being considered; it does not establish who has won the role. The reports did not establish when a decision will be announced.

Pattinson has played Batman, while Hoult appears in Superman and Nosferatu. Their reported interest adds another layer to a search that has attracted years of speculation.

A franchise between chapters

Daniel Craig’s last appearance as Bond came in 2021’s No Time to Die. The next film will be the first new chapter since Amazon MGM gained creative control through a joint venture with longtime franchise stewards Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.

The studio said in May that its search for the next Bond was under way and that it did not plan to comment on individual casting details during the process. Denis Villeneuve will direct, with Amy Pascal and David Heyman producing and Steven Knight writing the script, according to Amazon.
