What happened

A new Suffolk University statewide survey, reported by The Hill on October 7, 2026, measures preferences in Iowa’s Senate and governor contests. Newstro explains the figures, field dates, sample and uncertainty. Unrounded survey shares: • Senate: Josh Turek (D) 48.0%; Ashley Hinson (R) 43.6%; Thomas Laehn (L) 2.2%; undecided 5.6%; refused 0.6%. • Governor: Rob Sand (D) 54.8%; Zach Lahn (R) 42.8%; undecided 2.2%; refused 0.2%. Suffolk interviewed 500 statewide respondents screened as very or somewhat likely to vote, using live telephone interviews, October 1–4, 2026. Its published margin of sampling error is ±4.4 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. The Senate sample gap is 4.4 points; the governor sample gap is 12 points. These are survey preferences, not official election results, a poll average or probabilities of winning. A candidate-gap estimate has its own uncertainty; the published margin should not be applied directly to that difference. Like this video, subscribe to Newstro, and ring the bell for more reports.
