Navy confirms removal

November 7, 2026 · 1:00 p.m. Central

Marine Maj. Scott Laux, who flew the No. 6 opposing solo jet for the Navy’s Blue Angels, has been removed from the demonstration team after failing to meet its standards, the Navy told the Pensacola News Journal.

The announcement came as the team returned to Naval Air Station Pensacola for its homecoming air show. The Navy said Laux would not take part in the team’s remaining performance of the season. The newspaper reported that the team flew five jets instead of its usual six at Friday’s show.

What officials have — and have not — said

The Chief of Naval Air Training public affairs office confirmed the removal to the News Journal on November 6 but did not explain what prompted it or say when the decision was made. The San Francisco Chronicle reported that officials did not say whether it involved a disciplinary proceeding or investigation.

The Navy’s statement leaves the circumstances unresolved. It does not identify a specific action or establish a connection to any other incident.

Laux’s role on the team

Laux joined the Blue Angels in 2024 and served as the team’s narrator in 2025, before moving into the opposing solo position this year, according to the News Journal and Chronicle. The team’s 2026 maneuvers manual, issued before the announcement, lists him among authorized demonstration pilots.

He also took part in San Francisco’s Fleet Week performances in October, the Chronicle reported. The newspaper said Laux previously served with Marine fighter-attack units at Miramar in California.
